About this site

The purpose of this site is to promote my upcoming book, “Piñatas for the Year of the Dragon: Conversations with current and former expats in South Korea,” and invite readers to read a free sample. I also have a blog where I discuss things I’m reading or watching, courses I’m taking, and projects I’m working on. I may also use the space to share other random thoughts.

I’m a communications professional who lives in Seoul with my beautiful cat, Jellybean. My work has appeared in the Korea Herald, the Korea Times and Groove Korea.

Here are two articles I wrote for Groove Korea magazine, with additional reporting from other journalists in the second piece.

Here’s a clip from my time as travel editor at Groove Korea, featuring the writing and photos of Alex Nems.

Past writing: The Korea Herald, 2018-2019

I used to work as a copy editor at the Korea Herald and occasionally had opportunities to contribute my own articles. Here are a few.

Homeless animals in Korea: Finding homes for those who fall through the cracks

Past writing: The Korea Times, 2014

My brief tenure at this publication seems like another lifetime, but while I was there I managed to cover animal issues and even met a famous influencer couple.

New cafe promotes intercultural exchanges

Past writing: The Korea Herald, 2009

I wrote this next article as a freelance contributor to the Herald and also got to know a few of the people mentioned in it. My little dog Bangsiri was one of the Daejeon 150, so this case holds great personal significance for me.

About Jellybean

They say we all have an inner cat who hisses at strangers, judges everyone and wants to sleep all day long. This precious Persian, Jellybean, came to me in 2013 through an emergency rehoming situation and now we’re best friends. She’s much too angelic to judge anyone … or at least that’s what I like to tell myself.
